Take-home pay after income tax and Medicare levy, 2026-27, resident, no HELP debt.
Package vs. base salary
Job ads sometimes quote a “package” that includes super. Tick This amount includes super and the calculator removes the 12% super first. For a $100,000 package, base salary is $89,286 and super is $10,714.
Things that change your take-home pay
- HELP / HECS debt: repayments start at $69,528 in 2026-27 and are 15c for each dollar above that.
- Salary sacrifice: pre-tax super contributions reduce your tax but also your pay.
- Bonuses and overtime: add them under “More options” to see the tax on your full year.
- No private hospital cover: above $105,000 you may pay the Medicare levy surcharge.
- Tax-free threshold: if you have a second job, you usually can’t claim the threshold there, so more tax is withheld from that pay.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my take-home pay?
Subtract income tax, the Medicare levy and any HELP repayment from your gross pay. The calculator does this for any pay cycle and shows each deduction.
Why is my payslip slightly different?
Employers withhold tax using ATO tax tables, which round each pay and assume the same pay all year. Over a full year the difference usually evens out at tax time.
How is take-home pay calculated for a fortnight?
Your annual take-home is divided by 26. If you're paid fortnightly, that's what lands in your bank account after tax.
Should I compare job offers by salary or package?
Compare base salary plus super. A $100,000 package including super is a base salary of about $89,286, which takes home less than a $100,000 base salary.
What does salary sacrifice do to my pay?
It lowers your taxable income, so you pay less tax, but your take-home pay drops by less than the amount you sacrifice. The insights panel shows the exact trade-off.
